WHY: Service Background & Research

Memory Miner was developed to help people relieve pain and regrets regarding death.

helps people live fuller, prepare loss, and prevent pain.

The Memory Miner team members have recently experienced our loved ones' deaths.

After witnessing the regrets of the deceased and the pain and the regrets we had in our hearts,

we thought,

'why does it have to be so hard?
can't we make it easier for both?'

- and that's where it all started.

Cultural Research

To identify 'why', we firstly questioned the culture.

How do other cultures deal with the same issue?

Comparing these cultures with that in Korea, we found out Korea lacks personalized/self-directed death-related culture.

We identified the status quo to be an opportunity, especially with the well-dying trend slowly seeping into the culture.

Korea has a 3-days funeral ritual, often conducted by a funeral service company.

In the United States, online services regarding death are soaring, including online memorials and post-death data transfer.

In England, general awareness on death is higher due to death-related cafes, festivals, and education.

In Japan, a well-dying trend of Sugazhec movement is flourishing and relevant movies and products became widely popular.

Survey Results

We conducted a survey to 213 people regarding this issue.

So, here are the insights.

  • People who talk about death with their family is very low in all ages.

  • But they do want their funeral service to be performed differently from the traditional kind.

  • People want to be remembered for a long time, mostly over 10 years.

  • People miss 'memories' the most after loved ones' death.

We came to the realization that the key linkage between the people who are dying and their loved ones is ‘memories’.

we realized,

'it doesn't have to be so hard,
and we can make it easier for both'

MEMORIES

Service Concept

With that in mind, we developed ‘Memory Miner’
- a service and product that records, communes, and eternalizes precious memories and people.

Positioning & Differentiation

Memory Miner is differentiated by four factors.

  1. Memory Miner collects thoroughly filtered memories, thereby creating a database of ‘quality’ memories.

  2. These memories are passed on to later generations.

  3. The memories stored in Memory Miner is evaluated by oneself.

  4. The database of memories can be turned into a physical output – the memory box.

Memory Miner is highly user-centered and recollective.
